The mission of our organization, transported and delivered surgical and medical equipment to the Odessa Regional Hospital.
The aim of the mission was the delivery of humanitarian aid directly to the beneficiaries, the direct contact with the Municipal authorities, the Consulate General of Greece in Odessa, other agencies, and humanitarian organizations.
Due to transit problems at the Leuseni border station in Moldova and the curfew in Ukraine at night, the mission was forced to spend the night in the dead zone between the two countries and arrived in Odesa on the morning of May 6, 2022.
The members of the mission met with the deputy mayor of the city, Mr. Tetjuhin Sergey Nikolaevich, who has taken over the management of international humanitarian aid. Mr. Tetjuhin warmly thanked Kinoniko EKAV and informed the members of the team about the health and general condition. Afterward, our team transferred the surgical equipment to the Odessa Regional Hospital, where it was received by the Director, Tourchin doctor Mykola Ivanovich, who informed us about the condition and needs of the institution.
The hospital is a surgical reference center for the area. It has 470 beds and includes all surgical specialties. Given the circumstances, it has of course been flooded by a large number of injured people, coming from the wider area and therefore has great needs for equipment and consumables.
In the following days, the team visited the refugee support center managed by the organizations "Side by Side" and "Odessa as it is", where it was welcomed by doctor Ilya Nasinnyk. Finally, the team visited the Odesa Railway Station, where trains from Eastern Ukraine arrive daily, with refugees, currently estimated at 200,000 people.
The members of Kinoniko EKAV met with the Consul General of Greece in Odessa, Mr. Dimitris Dohtsis, whom they informed about their mission. The Consul referred to the issues concerning the Greek community of Odessa and to the concerns of all, regarding the development of the war.
A meeting was also held with the Greek Church in Odessa, which provides immediate assistance to refugees. In particular, the possibility of implementing a hosting program in our country for unaccompanied minors during the summer months was discussed.
The purpose of Kinoniko EKAV is to continue the support of the Odessa Regional Hospital and other health foundations, taking into account the special needs recorded by the mission. For this purpose, it addresses a release for special financial assistance (https://kinonikoekav.gr/index.php/en/draseis/anthrwpistiki-voitheia-ukraine, ΙΒΑΝ GR9102603740000750200505309) and assistance in medical supplies (tel. 210 72 55 36
